December Newsletter

17th December

Dear Parents/Carers,

It’s been a busy term and we don’t quite know where it’s flown.

Santa’s Grotto

We were very lucky last week that Santa managed to take some time to visit us and say hello to all the children in our grotto. It’s pretty amazing that he did this – given that it’s such a busy time for him – and we’re really grateful to him.

The children loved it and we’ve invited the local nurseries to bring their children too.

Christmas Fair

Thank you so much for your support with this. It was really well attended and a great success. We raised £992.46, which we are extremely grateful for and it will be put towards buying a second minibus which will help us to keep the cost of local trips down.
We recognise it was very busy in the halls, so next year we will also break out into some of the classrooms.
Our huge thanks go to the PFA and to Michele O’Reilly in particular.

Again: many thanks for your support.

Fund Raising

Thank you for your generosity and continued support for the fund raising events we organise. We received an incredible £435.12 commission from the Book Fair held in November. We were also able to donate to the following charities:

Poppy Appeal Collection £167.72
Shoe Box Appeal (we sent 92 boxes)
Children in Need £639.65

Year 1

Year 1 took part in a Christingle service at St Albans Church this week. This is always a lovely event to take part in at this time of year and the children performed and behaved wonderfully. Mrs Finch and the Year 1 team would like to thank all those parents who volunteered to walk the children to and from the church.

Used Stamps

This year we would like to support the UK Air Ambulance Services by recycling new or used postage stamps. Please send in any unwanted stamps, whether they are British or overseas stamps, to the school office and we will ensure they are sent on.

Year 4 Musical Production

We hope everyone that attended this enjoyed themselves. It certainly appeared that way from the smiling faces and the applause. Well done to the whole Year 4 team – the children were absolute stars.

Marvellous Me

This is now becoming established. After we return from the holidays we’re going to look at how well it is working and try to analyse how much we all use it to ensure consistency. If you haven’t yet signed up for this I would ask you to think about doing so as the feedback has been very positive.
If you aren’t too sure what it’s all about please just talk to us, some of the other parents or refer back to previous newsletters.

Year R Nativity

Weren’t the children cute? This is always a highlight and it’s always great fun watching the little ones carry on this age-old tradition.

Girls’ Football

For the second year in a row the girls’ team have reached the Hampshire Cup quarter finals. This will be played after Christmas against Northern Parade Junior School. Well done girls – we’ll be rooting for you.

Boys’ Football

The boys’ league has now finished and they were really up against it this year in a closely fought competition. We came 5th in the end but the boys played well and we’re very proud of them

Winter approaches

I’ll put this message in now because I don’t send these newsletters quite as often as we used to, now that the website is so good, and we have all the text and email systems. We’ve been lucky over the years; but the time is coming when we had best let you know what would happen if it snowed badly during the winter.

If we had to close we would do the following:
Send out a message on the text service
Put a notice on the website
Put a message on the front and back gates (assuming we can get someone in to do that
Contact Portsmouth City Council who will then publicise the closure on their website

It would then be a case of monitoring the school website for updates.
This message is now in a tab on the front page of the website should you ever need it.
